Getting braces is something that most teens and young adults do not enjoy for a broad range of reasons. Yet, research shows that upwards of 60% of dental patients need braces at some point in their lives, whether children or adults. With that many people needing braces, it is no wonder that people are looking for an alternative to the traditional metal braces that come with a laundry list of complaints. At Sunset Valley Dental in Woodstock, VT, we understand the complaints of our patients about traditional braces, which is why we offer Invisalign® as an effective alternative for some patients.

If you are still getting familiar with how Invisalign works or whether or not your child might be a good candidate, stop into our office, Sunset Valley Dental, the next time you find yourself in Woodstock, VT. We will happily review the details with you and determine if your child is a good fit for Invisalign as an alternative to traditional metal braces.

What Makes Invisalign Different?

Invisalign is almost completely different from traditional braces. For starters, Invisalign doesn’t use metal wires or brackets but instead uses clear aligning trays. These trays are custom fitted to each patient to be as comfortable as possible, and because they are clear, they are nearly invisible to the naked eye. This is a huge benefit for those teens and young adults self-conscious about their image.

Invisalign trays are also removable for up to two hours daily while eating or cleaning them. This makes it much easier to enjoy food and keeps the patient’s teeth and aligners in good shape. They are also much more comfortable this way. If patients start to get sore, they can take them out for a few minutes to relieve the pressure.

One last benefit is that Invisalign usually works faster than traditional braces. In some studies, Invisalign was up to 50% faster in realigning a patient’s teeth than metal braces.
